Le déplacement et les espaces générés par nos déplacements sont au coeur de mon projet de résidence « Strolling into collapsing times -2- ».

Aujourd’hui et certainement plus encore demain, les contextes politiques et environnementaux remettent en question notre mobilité compulsive. Quel sens a-t-elle? Que ou qui nourrit-elle? Comment et où peut avoir lieu la rencontre?

Le Labo Urbain à Fribourg présente, durant le temps de ma résidence au Caire d’août 2023 à janvier 2024, un dispositif expérimental, une installation évolutive à cheval sur deux continents, deux espaces culturels.

L’imprimante 3D céramique permet de matérialiser des idées malgré l’absence physique de l’artiste. En céramique, médium fondamentalement tactile, cette sous-traitance du geste à la machine contrarie et interroge l’impératif du geste. La machine n’est pourtant qu’un simple outil qui produit des formes en trois dimensions par le déplacement dans l’espace. Son fonctionnement et son potentiel doivent être apprivoisés, tout comme la ville dans laquelle j’évolue durant cette résidence.

Si les volumes imprimés au Labo Urbain à Fribourg sont inspirés de ma présence physique au Caire à 2’784 km de distance, l’argile utilisée, a elle été extraite à Wallenried, à 8,3 km du Labo Urbain.

Des images issues de mes déambulations au Caire sont intégrées à l’installation; elles font office de légendes et entre en dialogue avec les volumes matérialisés.

L’installation se développe durant ma délocalisation au Caire. Dix impressions sont finalement réalisées.

Moving around and spaces generated by displacement are at the centre of my residency project « Strolling into collapsing times -2-« .
Today, and certainly even more so tomorrow, political and environmental contexts are calling into question our compulsive mobility. What sense does it make? What or who does it nourish? How and where can we meet?

During my residency in Cairo from August 2023 to January 2024, the Labo Urbain in Fribourg is presenting an experimental installation straddling two continents and two cultural spaces.
The 3D ceramic printer makes it possible to materialise ideas despite the physical absence of the artist. In ceramics, a fundamentally tactile medium, this subcontracting of the gesture to the machine contradicts and questions the imperative of the gesture. Yet the machine is simply a tool that produces three-dimensional forms by moving through space. Its operation and potential need to be tamed, just like the city in which I’m moving during this residency.

While the volumes printed at the Labo Urbain in Fribourg were inspired by my physical presence in Cairo, 2,784 km away, the clay used was extracted in Wallenried, 8.3 km from the Labo Urbain.
Images from my strolls through Cairo are integrated into the installation, they act as captions and enter into dialogue with the materialised volumes.
The installation developed during my stay in Cairo. Ten prints were finally produced.

Die Fortbewegungen und die kollektive Herstellung der gesellschaftlichen Räume stehen im Mittelpunkt meines Residenzprojektes « Strolling into collapsing times -2- ». Heute und bestimmt noch stärker in Zukunft stellen die politischen und ökologischen Zusammenhänge die Relevanz unserer Fortbewegungen in Frage. Welchen Sinn haben sie? Was oder wen nähren sie? Wie und wo kann Begegnung stattfinden?

Das Labo Urbain in Fribourg zeigt während meiner Residenzzeit in Kairo von August 2023 bis Januar 2024, eine Versuchsanordnung, eine evolutive Installation, die sich über zwei Kontinente und zwei Kulturräume erstreckt.
Der 3-D-Drucker macht es möglich, Ideen trotz der körperlichen Abwesenheit der Künstlerin Gestalt werden zu lassen. In der Keramik, einem grundlegend taktilen Medium, widerspricht und hinterfragt diese Auslagerung der Handlung an die Maschine dem Handlungsimperativ. Dabei ist die Maschine jedoch bloss ein einfaches Werkzeug, das durch die Bewegung im Raum dreidimensionale Formen erzeugt. Ihre Funktionsweise und ihr Potenzial müssen zugänglich gemacht werden – ebenso wie die Stadt, in der ich mich während meines Residenzaufenthaltes bewege.

Während die hier gedruckten Volumen von meiner körperlichen Präsenz im 2’784 km entfernten Kairo inspiriert sind, wurde der hier verwendete Ton 8,3 km entfernt von hier in Wallenried abgebaut.

Bilder von meinen Wanderungen in Kairo werden in die Installation integriert; sie wirken als Legenden und treten in einen Dialog mit den materialisierten Volumen. Die Installation entwickelt sich während meines Aufenthalts in Kairo. Zehn Drucke werden schließlich hergestellt.
